[Guide] Tooltips syndication

Postby Kiriak » 05 Jun 2016, 15:42

Hello guys!

We've promised this feature for quite some time and finally it's ready.
Here is the guide on how to add our tooltips to your site.

First of all, in order for the tooltips to work, we need to add your site into the white list. So when you'll finish adding the necessary files and code to your site, PM me with the url of your site.

1. Download and save the following files on your server in some directory. For example /tooltips:
http://bddatabase.net/css/jquery.qtip.min.css
http://bddatabase.net/js/jquery-2.1.4.min.js
http://bddatabase.net/js/jquery.qtip.min.js
http://bddatabase.net/js/tooltips.min.js

2. Include these files in the <head> tag of your site:
Code: Select all
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/tooltips/jquery.qtip.min.css">
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="/tooltips/jquery-2.1.4.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="/tooltips/jquery.qtip.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="/tooltips/tooltips.min.js"></script>

Note: If your site is already using the jquery or qtip libraries you don't need to include them again.
Also be sure to store these files on your server. Do not link them directly from our site!

3. That's it. Now any link to an item, quest or npc from our database will have a tooltip.
A working example of the tooltips can be found here.

Terms of use:
You are free to use the tooltips on your fan sites, clan forums, in your guides etc.
However, we don't want you to create the copies of the Black Desert Database or it's sections by using our tooltips.
We reserve the right to disable the tooltips for your site or remove this functionality entirely at any time.

Hi, first of all let me say that this feature is awesome and helps a lot specially when posting on the guild forum and articles :).

But at the moment not sure if its intentional but the website is not allowing cross-site requests, so the tooltips does not work outside of bddatabase.com

heres an error example: XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://bddatabase.net/tip.php?id=item--10010&l=us&nf=on. No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin 'http://websitehere.com' is therefore not allowed access.

Thanks

It's not done intentionally, but it's the feature of the technology being used. That's why i've wrote in the description:

Once you do this, everything will be working just fine. :)

Hello !

Thank you for this feature !
It appears that I can't make it work...

I uploaded the 4 files in a folder named bdotooltips.
Here is the complete path: desertnoir.fr/forums/bdotooltips

So I edited the 4 lines of code accordingly:

Code: Select all
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/bdotooltips/jquery.qtip.min.css">
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="/bdotooltips/jquery-2.1.4.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="/bdotooltips/jquery.qtip.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="/bdotooltips/tooltips.min.js"></script>

And placed them between the <head> tag of my forum (Invision Power's IPS 4). But it doesn't work. I cleared the forum's cache too, but it didn't solved anything. Any clue ?

Thank you !

Please, post here a link to the page where the tooltip is used and not working. Then i can tell, what's wrong.

I'm not sure why, but the qtip component is not working properly on your site. It gives an error when tooltip.js tries to call it:
"Uncaught TypeError: $(...).qtip is not a function"

Try to redownload the jquery.qtip.min.js and link it with full path including the http: part.

Hello and thank you,

I just reuploaded the file and edited its path in the theme editor. But it still doesn't work. :(

Something is wrong there in your page setup. Maybe some scripts are conflicting with the qtip. Try to setup some very simple page similar to our example here and get it working first. After that you can try to find the problem on your main site.
